7 Signs You’re Trusting God More Than You Think

Faith can be complicated for a believer. I struggle to be patient and let the fruit of my actions appear in its time. I want results now, and I often feel entitled.

My own worst enemy is my doubting mind and my lack of knowledge. If I don’t feel good or doubts start running through my head, I think that means my faith is lacking.

But faith has never been based on feelings. Faith is about belief and the choices we make because of it.

“When I am afraid, I put my trust in You.” — Psalm 56:3 (NIV)

Faith can be present in your life even through fear, trials, doubt, and pain. Because faith is a choice that shapes your actions, stop focusing on how you feel and look at the daily actions you live out in faith instead.

If you feel like your faith is fading, these seven signs may show that you are already trusting God.

1. Asking For Help

Walking the path of faith alone may sound like a good plan when you feel vulnerable or unsure about your next steps. But being humble enough to ask for help is a clear sign you are walking in faith and still trusting the steps you need to take.

2. Resting Instead of Scrambling

Nothing stunts my faith faster than trying to do everything in my own strength. Walking in faith requires resting and trusting God.

When I stop scrambling through life’s messy, hard seasons and rest in God and my relationship with Him, I’m walking in faith.

3. Praying Honestly

My favorite part of prayer has become confession. Being real with God is the most freeing part of my day.

I know many of the thoughts I have and the discouragement I often feel are not true or a part of God’s plan for my life. So handing those thoughts and lies over to God through confession has been a necessity in my faith walk.

The truth is, many thoughts, ideas, and lies pop into my mind. I have strongholds and sins to overcome. But when I pray honestly, I show that I believe the Holy Spirit is the only One who can help me overcome those obstacles.

4. Doing Your Part, Then Letting Things Go

This is a strong indicator that you are trusting in the process. You might struggle with wanting to open doors only God can open.

One of my favorite stories to remember when I am trying to force those doors open is Joseph’s story. He did his part, no matter what trial he faced or what circumstance he was in, and God’s promises in his life were fulfilled in God’s time.

5. Saying ‘No’

Recently, I was thinking about what my “yes” has taken me away from and how I’ve dropped the ball on a few things because I’ve said “yes” more often than “no.”

The greatest lesson I have learned from walking in faith is how to manage my time better by saying “yes” to my calling and “no” to the things that take me away from it. Time management may seem like a small step of faith, but I know the Bible says that when I can be trusted with little, I show I can be trusted with more (Luke 16:10).

6. Coming Back Even After Doubt

Being honest with God in prayer about your doubt counts as coming back after doubt. I challenge you to question your doubt, which is usually just fear.

Fear is the greatest enemy of faith. So when you feel like you are doubting, a comeback might just be doing something you’re afraid to do.

7. Remembering His Faithfulness

We have so many stories to lean on to remember God’s faithfulness. I look to my own stories and my past, and other times I find inspiring stories online, along with countless ones in the Bible.

Being in the Word, reading old journals, or telling a friend about a time God showed up shows you are already trusting God.

Practice Your Faith Today

Jesus doesn’t expect us to have it all figured out, and sometimes the greatest step of faith is showing up when you don’t feel like it. During your prayer time today, practice your faith by following the ACTS framework:

Adoration: Remember God’s character and what He does for you each day.

Confession: Be real and honest with God about your struggles, trials, feelings, and sin.

Thanksgiving: Remember God’s faithfulness even in the little things.

Supplication: Make your requests known to Him (Philippians 4:6). What are you waiting on? Ask Him again, in faith, for the desires of your heart (Psalm 37:4).
