The 5-Minute Habit That Helps My Faith Come Alive

Do you ever feel like you’re just going through the motions as a follower of Jesus? You believe God is real, but struggle to experience Him in your everyday life.

Our days are filled with seemingly mundane moments—schedules, deadlines, meals, appointments—and the unexpected that comes our way. Most days, we’re not looking for the miraculous; we’re just trying to keep up so we don’t fall behind.

It’s hard to admit, isn’t it?

But you’re not alone. Sometimes our faith can feel lifeless—even when we know Jesus is living and active. That tension is part of living in a world that isn’t our true home. We’re surrounded by constant noise, distractions competing for our attention. The enemy would love nothing more than for us to fix our eyes on what is temporary instead of what is true.

We’re not the first to struggle with this. Paul wrote to early believers facing the same pull toward the temporary:

“So if you have been raised with Christ, seek the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.” — Colossians 3:1–3

Paul reminds us that while the things of this world feel tangible, they are temporary. God’s Kingdom is the truest reality. Often, our faith feels dull because we’re looking for life in what can’t give it. We chase peace, joy, and hope in things that were never meant to satisfy—rather than in the One who is peace, joy, and hope.

So how do we come alive again? How do we squeeze in something else when we’re already struggling to do what’s on our plate?

Lift Your Eyes

Yes, it really is that simple and that short. Paul uses two powerful words: seek and set. Both invite us to realign our posture—to lift our eyes from our hands to Jesus.

To seek means to look for something with intention.

What are you diligently looking for right now—peace, joy, love, acceptance? And where are you looking for it?

Psalm 37 reminds us:

“Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.”

When we delight in Jesus—when we look to Him for what we’re truly longing for—we find that He meets us. He is a good God who gives us exactly what we need.

To set means to fix your focus without wavering—like a runner locked in on the finish line.

Where is your attention today? On your own ability? Your problems? Your to-do list? Or on the One who holds all power, strength, and provision?

When we lift our eyes off what’s in our hands and onto the One who holds us—and everything we carry—we begin to experience faith that is alive.

And suddenly, even the ordinary becomes sacred.

1. The dinner you prepared becomes more than a task—it becomes a place of nourishment and connection

2. Help shows up at just the right time when your day feels too full

3. You slow down enough to truly see and care for someone who is hurting

4. You begin to notice God at work—in your life and in others

The life you’re longing for—peace, joy, contentment, abundance—is found in Christ. When we look to Jesus, what is true comes into focus.

So what might it look like to lift your eyes today?

1. Turn on worship music, even for a few minutes

2. Reflect on who God is in the middle of a specific challenge

3. Remember His faithfulness in your life and in the lives of others

4. Thank Him for the ways you see Him at work today
